These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of Monoscript, a screenplay reading application made available through Apple's App Store.
1. License to Use Monoscript
Subject to these Terms and Apple's applicable rules, you are granted a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Monoscript on Apple devices that you own or control for lawful purposes.
This license does not transfer ownership of Monoscript or any intellectual property rights to you.
2. Restrictions
You may not, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law:
- copy, modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works of Monoscript;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code, except where such restriction is prohibited by law;
- rent, lease, sell, sublicense, distribute, or commercially exploit Monoscript itself;
- remove proprietary notices or security mechanisms; or
- use Monoscript in a way that violates law, third-party rights, or these Terms.
3. Your Screenplays and Other Content
You retain whatever ownership rights you have in screenplay files, text, notes, annotations, and other material that you import or create using Monoscript (“User Content”).
Monoscript does not claim ownership of your User Content. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right to possess, copy, read, annotate, store, or otherwise use any User Content you import into the app.
You must not use Monoscript to facilitate infringement of copyright, confidentiality obligations, trade secrets, contractual restrictions, or other rights belonging to someone else.
4. No License to Third-Party Screenplay Content
Monoscript provides reading and annotation tools. It does not give you permission to use, reproduce, distribute, publish, or otherwise exploit any screenplay or other copyrighted material that you import.
Any rights in a screenplay remain with its copyright owner or other rights holder. You are responsible for obtaining whatever permissions you need.
5. Local Storage and No Server Copy of User Content
Monoscript is designed so that screenplay files, notes, highlights, and annotations are stored locally rather than uploaded to servers operated by the developer.
Monoscript does not promise that your device will always preserve locally stored data. You are responsible for backups and for maintaining copies of any material that is important to you.
6. App Functionality and Technical Limitations
Screenplay rendering, pagination, text extraction, navigation, search, highlighting, annotation placement, and other features may vary depending on the PDF file, embedded fonts, formatting, device, operating-system version, and future changes to iOS.
Monoscript does not guarantee that every PDF will be rendered exactly as it appears in the original source file or that every imported file will be interpreted perfectly.
7. Intellectual Property
Monoscript, its software, original interface design, visual elements, documentation, and other developer-created materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Except for the limited license expressly granted in these Terms, all rights in those materials remain with the developer or the applicable rights holder.
The app name “Monoscript” is used as the name of the application. Nothing in these Terms grants you a trademark license or implies that a trademark has been registered.
8. Purchases, Subscriptions, and Lifetime Access
Monoscript may offer monthly subscriptions, annual subscriptions, and a lifetime purchase or other paid features. The exact offerings, prices, billing intervals, and terms presented to you at the time of purchase are controlled by Apple and the App Store purchase interface.
Subscriptions generally renew automatically unless cancelled through your Apple account settings in accordance with Apple's applicable rules. Apple is responsible for processing payments and applicable refunds.
A “lifetime” purchase means a non-consumable purchase that does not have a scheduled expiration under the terms presented at purchase. It does not guarantee that Monoscript or a particular feature will exist, remain supported, or remain technically compatible with every future version of iOS forever.
9. Family Sharing
Where Apple Family Sharing is enabled for an eligible Monoscript purchase, Apple controls the availability of that purchase to eligible family members and the conditions under which access is shared, revoked, or changed.
Family Sharing availability can be affected by Apple's policies, account status, refunds, changes to family membership, and other Apple-controlled conditions. Monoscript does not independently control Apple's Family Sharing system.
10. Restore Purchases and Entitlement Verification
Monoscript may use Apple and RevenueCat services to verify and restore your paid entitlements. Availability of restored access may depend on the status of your Apple account, transaction records, service connectivity, and third-party service availability.
11. Refunds and Cancellations
Purchases made through the App Store are subject to Apple's applicable terms, refund procedures, and cancellation mechanisms. Monoscript does not control Apple's payment processing or refund decisions.
12. No Professional, Legal, or Production Advice
Monoscript is a reading and annotation tool. It does not provide legal, copyright, production, financing, insurance, or other professional advice. You are responsible for decisions made using information or materials viewed through the app.
13. Changes to Monoscript
We may add, remove, modify, suspend, or discontinue features of Monoscript from time to time. We may also release updates required for security, bug fixes, compatibility, or changes to Apple's operating systems and platform requirements.
We do not guarantee that every feature will remain available indefinitely.
14. Availability
Monoscript may be unavailable temporarily because of maintenance, device issues, iOS changes, Apple service outages, network problems, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.
15. Third-Party Services
Monoscript relies on third-party services and platform infrastructure, including Apple and RevenueCat, for matters such as app distribution, in-app purchases, and entitlement management.
Those services are governed by their own terms and policies. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for outages, changes, errors, or failures originating solely from third-party services.
16. Privacy
Your use of Monoscript is also subject to the Monoscript Privacy Policy, which explains how purchase-related and technical information is handled and clarifies that screenplay content, notes, and annotations are not stored on servers operated by the developer.
17. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Monoscript is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind except where a warranty cannot legally be excluded.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, and non-infringement.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any consumer rights, statutory guarantees, or other protections that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited in your jurisdiction.
18. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, business opportunities, or goodwill arising from or related to your use of Monoscript.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer's aggregate liability for claims arising from or related to Monoscript will not exceed the amount you paid to the developer for Monoscript during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or another minimum amount required by applicable law.
The limitations in this section do not apply to liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded.
19. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the developer from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, costs, and reasonable expenses arising from your unlawful use of Monoscript, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of a third party's rights through User Content.
This section does not require you to indemnify the developer for the developer's own unlawful conduct where such indemnification cannot legally be required.
20. Termination
Your rights under these Terms will end automatically if you materially violate them. You may also stop using Monoscript at any time.
Upon termination, you must stop using Monoscript and may delete it from your devices. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law, will survive.
21. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, except to the extent that mandatory consumer-protection or other laws in your place of residence require otherwise.
22. Informal Dispute Resolution
Before bringing a formal claim, you agree, to the extent permitted by law, to give the developer a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue informally by contacting the developer through the contact method published on the official Monoscript website or App Store listing.
23. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
24. No Waiver
A failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of the right to enforce that provision later.
25. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any additional terms presented by Apple or in connection with a particular purchase, form the agreement governing your use of Monoscript, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
26. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will be posted at this website with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of Monoscript after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
27. Contact
For questions about these Terms, please contact the developer through the Feedback and Support email: support@monoscript.net
